Relevant Material: "TurboTax uses a 16-digit license code for the desktop software (or an activation code for the online version). This code verifies your purchase and is necessary to install and use the software. 
Where to Find Your Code
The location of your license/activation code depends on how you purchased the product: 
  • Purchased from TurboTax.com (Download): The code will be on the order confirmation screen after purchase, in your confirmation email, and available in your Intuit account's "Licenses and Downloads" section.
  • Purchased from a retailer (e.g., Amazon, Costco, Staples): The code is typically printed on a sticker, slip of paper, or a scratch-off card inside the product box/insert. It is not on the outside of the box or on your receipt.
  • Purchased via TurboTax Advantage: The code will be in your notification email and can be found in your Intuit account's Downloads folder. 
How to Use Your Code
  • TurboTax Desktop (CD/Download): You will be prompted to enter the 16-digit license code during the installation process on your computer. As of the 2023 tax year, the code is linked to a single Intuit account for security and ease of re-installation.
  • TurboTax Online: You do not enter a license code during general use. Instead, if you purchased a prepaid version from a retailer, you must visit the activation page at TurboTax.ca/activate (for Canadian versions) to apply the code to your online account before starting your return. 
If You Cannot Find or Use Your Code
  • Lost code: If you purchased directly from TurboTax/Intuit, you can always retrieve the code by signing into your Intuit Account online.
  • Code error: Ensure you are using the correct code for the correct product (online vs. desktop) and tax year, as codes are year-specific.
  • Still having trouble: If you are unable to locate or use your code, contact the TurboTax Customer Support team for further assistance. .." (Google)
